Bunyangabu is a District in the Western Region of Uganda. The town of Kibiito is the Political and administrative center of the District. However, the town of Rwimi, is the largest and Main commercial center of Bunyangabu

Before 1 July 2017, Bunyangabu was a county in neighbouring Kabarole District. On that day, the new district became operational. Bunyangabu comprises of Rwimi, Kibiito, Buheesi, Kiyombya, Kisomoro, Kabonero and Kateebwa, Bukara Sub-counties and the urban centers of Rwimi, Kibiito, Rubona, Kyamukube, Kakinga, Buheesi and Nyakigumba.

Our Mandate:

[District Name] District Local Government derives its mandate from Article 176 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda and the Local Governments Act Cap. 243. We are empowered to exercise political and administrative authority, and to provide services in our areas of jurisdiction. Our key responsibilities include:

  • Formulating and implementing district development plans and budgets.
  • Enacting district ordinances and by-laws.
  • Delivering essential services such as education, health, water, roads, and agricultural extension.
  • Promoting local economic development and community empowerment.
  • Ensuring good governance, accountability, and the sustainable management of public resources.
  • Fostering peace, security, and social cohesion within the district.

Location and Geography

Bunyangabu is bordered by Kabarole District to the north, Kamwenge District to the East, Kasese District to the South and Bundibugyo District to the West. The town of Kibiito, where the District headquarters are located, is approximately 33 kilometres (21 mi) by road, Southwest of Fort Portal, the largest city in Toro Sub-region. This is approximately 330 kilometres (205mi), by road, West of Kampala, the Capital and largest city of Uganda.
